The Mayor expressed gratitude to Padre Charles Lewis for his service to the council and the borough.

To elect a Mayor for the ensuing year 2025/26
1) The retiring Mayor, Councillor Dan Putty, will call for nominations for election to the office of Mayor for the year 2025/26.
2) The retiring Mayor and retiring Mayoress and the new Mayor will leave for a short period for robing. The Chief Executive will invest the new Mayor with a badge of office. During this time a presentation showing highlights of the retiring Mayor’s year is played.
3) On returning, the new Mayor will take the Mayor’s seat and the retired Mayor will take a seat with the Councillors. The retired Mayoress will return to a designated seat.
4) The new Mayor will read and sign the declaration of acceptance of office.

Nominations were invited for the election of the Mayor of the borough for the ensuing year 2025/26. Councillor Ashfield proposed, seconded by Councillor T Jones, that Councillor Colin Phillimore be elected Mayor of the borough to hold office for the ensuing year 2025/26.
Resolved: That Councillor Colin Phillimore be elected to the office of Mayor for the ensuing year 2025/26.
The Mayor made his Declaration of Acceptance of Office and took the chair.

Vote of thanks to the retiring Mayor
The new Mayor will propose a vote of thanks to the retiring Mayor and retiring Mayoress and will present a Past Mayor’s Badge to the retiring Mayor and a Past Mayoress’s Badge to the retiring Mayoress.

The Mayor gave a speech of thanks to Councillor Putty and Mrs Putty as retiring Mayor and Mayoress, for their service to the civic office during the municipal year 2024/25.

Reply from the retiring Mayor
The retiring Mayor will address the Council and give a small speech and present their Mayor’s Awards.

The retiring Mayor, Councillor Putty, referred to his year as Mayor and the support and enjoyment he had received from working with people in the community. He gave thanks to officers, local media and the Mayoral Co-ordinator for their support and help during his year. He also gave thanks to Mrs Putty for her support during the year.
He presented awards to recognise those he considered had made a contribution to life in Basingstoke.
Individual awards were made to:
· Keith Bastin, Governor of St John’s School and Hatch Warren School.
· Jane Stubb, Tesco Community Champion
· Dr Anusha Singh of Beggarwood and Hatchwarren Dental Surgery
Business awards were presented to:
· Mark Henderson – Principle of Queen Mary’s College
· Gareth Richards – TPT Fire Systems Group Ltd
· Martin Baker – Couch Waterfall
Youth awards were presented to:
· Jamie Gane – Para Sport Ambassador

He concluded by thanking the Bishop of Basingstoke, David Williams, who had been his Chaplain during his term as Mayor and was unable to be at the meeting due to his new position in Cornwall and Padre Lewis for attending in his place. He also thanked readers from other multi denominational groups who had supported him during his year and for the Facilities Management Team as Macebearers.

The new Mayor will announce their multi denominational team and charity arrangements and address the Council.

He further spoke about his political career.

His chosen charities for his Mayoral year were St Michaels Hospice and The Whitchurch Community Swimming Pool.
