SWA Answers to Questions Raised on 20 Feb 2023
SWA Answers to Additonal Questions The Committee agreed that issues about the future use of the Havant Thicket Reservoir and Southern Water’s recycling option would be included in the Committee’s workplan for next year, which would give the Committee an opportunity to invite Portsmouth Water Company and Southern Water to a meeting or meetings of the Committee to answer questions from members on these particular issues.
The Committee proposed the following recommendations to Cabinet following its review of the progress made by Southern Water to reduce the amount of effluent discharged into Langstone Harbour:
1. Havant Borough Council should hold regular meetings with Southern Water to review progress into reducing the discharge of partially treated sewage into Langstone Harbour, with reports back to Full Council. This could include a review of Southern Water’s data as well as analysis of the independent data produced by both Council water testing and the two buoys positioned in the harbour.
2. Havant Borough Council should investigate what could be done to reduce the rate of water into the harbour by: a. Requesting Havant Borough Council to encourage residents to consider where excess rainwater from their property goes and whether they could reduce the amount that ends up in the harbours. b. Reminding residents of the requirements for planning permission when installing non-permeable driveways above 5 square metres.
