Minutes
Consideration was given to a report by the Head of Corporate and Community Safety providing the Sub Board with Community Fund grant applications in order that members can determine grant awards.
1. Wetwheels Hamble
The applicant advised that the CIC had been formed in 2016 based on the River Hamble and now have 57 professionally trained volunteers to run the programme. The organization has all the appropriate accreditations and RYA qualifications and health & safety, first aid etc.Last year 2,300 people were taken out onto the water, 10 guests at a time of which 1500 had some form of disability or issue.. All types of mobility issue and disability can be accommodated even the most complex of needs.
Following a member’s question the applicant explained that if the grant was awarded then Gosport residents would be able to attend free of charge. A programme of publicity would include Gosport specific leaflets and any leads or suggestions of potential participants would be welcomed. Ideally the participants would attend in Hamble, but alternative venues in Gosport could be explored. Detailed records are kept of all participants so it would be possiboe to share the Gosport take up with the Sub Board.
Members agreed to award £1,500
2. Intrepid games Foundation
The applicant advised that the goal was to stage the Intrepid games, which would follow the set up of the Invictus Games but for disabled emergency services officers. The involvement of school children was aimed at increasing understanding of disability sport, to encourage the children to carry out acts of kindness and raise money for the Games.
Members were advised that each child that signs up would be supported in carrying out the acts of kindness by their school and the 10 volunteers involved in the Foundation. Five schools are already involved. One Gosport school has shown support for the scheme and the grant would fund the purchase of medals necessary.
Members agreed to award £1,100
3. Rowner Community Trust
Members were advised that over 980 residents had taken part in the programme of social events put on by the trust last year, and it was hoped that this success could be built on this year. The Youth Centre had also re-opened andhad made a perceptible impact on the ASB in the area on the nights it is opened.
The applicant advised that although they worked closely with Motiv8 they did not think that the events they have in mind affect those organized by GBC for Summer Passport, and were aimed at those young people who would not travel far from home.
The tea parties would be repeated, a film night and more playdays would form the basis of the programme with the emphasis on innivotive games for all ages.
The grant would be used to fund the publicity which takes the form of letters through doors both in advance and on the day before which was found to be effective last year. It would also replace broken play and sport equipment and a small part used to buy t-shirts to encourage a feeling of belonging.
Members agreed to award £3,000
