CC Board Report 20220310 v4 - updated Climate Change Action Plan
Consideration was given to a report by the Head of Corporate Policy and Community Safety regarding the Climate Change Action Plan.
In answer to a Members’ question, the Board were advised that Climate Emergency UK is a coalition of organisations campaigning on Climate Change issues, who have been talking to Local Authorities for many years to determine methods of strategy benchmarking and identify good practice. This organisation had consulted with Councils and had Local Authority Councillors sitting on the steering committee. Officers agreed to provide the Board with more information on the make-up and expertise of the organisation.
Members were advised that the Gosport Borough Council Draft Local Plan includes policies concerned with sustainability, and Officers have met to discuss how the action plan can influence the content of the Local Plan. The consultation for the Local Plan is ongoing. A Member hoped that with the removal of solar panels from the plan, and nothing as ambitious in its place, that the 2023 target could still be met.
RESOLVED: That the Board noted the progress update in the report and approved the Climate Change Action Plan.

In response to Members’ questions, Officers agreed to circulate the letter that had been sent to the UK Government in November 2020 and to chase a response.
