MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
Minutes
The Mayor gave an overview of highlights in the civic calendar and reflected on his year as Mayor:
· Since the last meeting the Mayor and Mayoress had attended Fryern Funtasia, a community event, with many familiar faces.
· The main focus of the events of the last month had been the Coronation and they had attended an event at Pavilion on the Park to celebrate
· The Mayor had been delighted to work with the Asian Welfare and Cultural Association (AWCA) to put on a Community Lunch over the Coronation weekend. Over 500 delicious meals were served and the volunteers from the AWCA and Eastleigh Rotary Club did an amazing job. There was also fantastic support from the Eastleigh Gurkha and Nepalese Association (EGNA), Age Concern, Eastleigh BID and a local band, Saxophony.
· The Mayor was pleased to present Local Hero Awards to people who had set-up Eastleigh Community Aid to recognise their outstanding contribution during the Covid-19 pandemic. The initiative set-up a group to recruit volunteers to shop, collect medication and befriend people. The group helped hundreds of residents and was a lifeline for many vulnerable people.
· The Mayor noted the great volunteering work he had witnessed during his Mayoral year.
The Mayor conducted a minutes silence in memory of those friends and colleagues that were sadly lost during the Mayoral year:
· Roy Sollitt – Past Mayor’s Escort 2001/2002 and 2017/2018
· Patrick Hallifax – Past Mayor 1979/1980
· Ray Jones – Past Mayor’s Escort 1994/1995
· Angela Roling – Former Councillor and Alderman
· Dennis Tranah – Deputy Town Clerk and Town Clerk of Eastleigh Urban Council 1954 to 1974 and Chief Executive of Eastleigh Borough Council 1974-1985
· Mary Stallard – Past Mayoress 1960/1961
