Road Naming and Financial Management Report
Appendix 1 - OHHLowerAcreRoadNameKey The Committee considered a report by the Lead Local Area Manager concerning road naming and financial management (item 5).
The Committee discussed the proposals at length.
The substantive recommendation relating to road naming was voted on and lost.
RESOLVED –
That the
Committee: (1) Agreed the road names, aside from ‘The Avenue’, proposed for Phase One of the development known as One Horton Heath; (2) Delegated back to the Chair and Vice Chair to name the main road through the site with input from the developer and Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council; (3) Allocated £60,143 of developers’ contributions secured through the Phase One S106 legal agreement towards the delivery of public art.
[NOTES: (a) the Chair of Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council spoke in objection to the proposal to call the main road ‘The Avenue’ citing possible confusion with ‘The Avenue’ in Southampton and expressed the wish of the Parish Council that the name be more innovative and with a local focus; including a prefix ahead of Avenue and (b) the Leader of the Council spoke in support of ‘The Avenue’ as it would be a tree lined boulevard and anchor the east and west of the site and marks the transition through the site. Local road names were being used across the site but it was felt ‘The Avenue’ was distinctive and united the design code across the site.] |
