Minutes
The Committee received a report to provide an update on current Elections Activity and any upcoming changes, By-Elections and Neighbourhood Planning Referendums.
The report provided information and an update to Members on the preparations for the upcoming combined Local Government elections taking place on Thursday 1 May 2025.
Committee were advised the ‘Notice of Election’ for the following Elections will be published on Monday 24 March 2025 for:
· Elected Mayor for Doncaster
· Local Government Councillors – all wards
· Town/Parish Councillors – all areas.
In addition, Committee were advised that a selection of Candidate and Agent briefing sessions will take place for all elections both virtually via Teams and in person on the following dates and times:
· Mayoral Candidate & Agents – Wednesday 5 March 5:30pm in person at Civic Office
· Local Government Cllrs – Tuesday 25 February – Via Teams (link on webpage)
· Local Government Cllrs – Monday 3 March 5:00pm in person at Civic Office
· Town/Parish Cllrs – Wednesday 26 February – Via Teams (link on webpage)
· Town/Parish Cllrs – Tuesday 11 March 5:00pm in person at Civic Office
Nomination Papers can be submitted between the hours of 9.30am and 4.00pm on any day (excluding weekends and bank holidays) from Monday 24 March 2025 until NO LATER THAN 4pm on Wednesday 2 April 2025.
In response to a question asking if there had been an increase in people requesting voter ID, it was advised that no increase has been noted to date however, this may change closer to the date of elections. There are national and local voter ID awareness campaigns which may prompt an increase in requests. Veteran’s ID Cards will now be accepted as a new form of ID for this election.
It was noted Candidate & Agent Briefing Sessions arranged to take place via MS Teams will commence at 5.00pm.
In response to a question raised for the suitability of the Polling Station sited on Welfare Road, Woodlands for residents residing in the Woodlands New Estate Square, feedback has been received noting the distance is too far to access, Officers to investigate concerns.
Full details of the Elections Activity progress were highlighted within the report.
