Updated draft Climate Change and Air Quality Strategy

Minutes
The Leader introduced the report which presented the Committee with an updated draft Climate Change and Air Quality Strategy for consideration.
The Committee discussed the report and made the following comments:
Sought further clarification on emissions associated with the incinerator.
Requested that the correct figure for heat pumps referenced in the strategy be circulated.
Suggested that Officers undertake engagement with younger residents on the strategy such as school children and local scout & guide groups.
Requested that the communication to residents on the Councils environmental strategies be improved and suggested that it be included in the Council newsletter.
· Made reference to the introduction of municipal planting, policies where hedgerows were used as boundaries and the protection of natural river buffers.
Resolved: The Committee:
Note the work of the Carbon Trust and the findings of the Task and Finish Group.
Provides its comments to the Cabinet Member for Climate and Ecological Emergency on the draft updated Climate Change and Air Quality Strategy, including the proposed new target date of 2045 to work towards a net zero borough, ahead of a public consultation.

Review of work programme
The Committee is asked to note and review its Work Programme and to receive updates from the Lead Members of Task and Finish Groups.

The Chair introduced the work programme and gave a brief overview of the items that would be included on the agenda for the upcoming meetings.
